As a queer person raised in a small town, Logan Rowland has used music as an escape for as long as he can remember. It started with the radio, then the piano in his parents’ living room, then every instrument he could get his hands on. His world is a panorama of his own mind. Thoughts spiral, feelings fester, and his feet never touch the ground. Rowland’s music calls you to fall into a fantasy of nostalgia.
What inspired the song?
“'HEARTEYES' is about two people who are both too nervous to make the first move. I’ve always been the person who’s too scared to flirt with someone. Not sure if that has anything to do with me growing up in a small town where I had to keep my feelings for any guy secret (it definitely does).
Nowadays, I’m always complaining that no one’s interested in me, but my friends tell me I just never notice when people are. 'HEARTEYES' definitely represents the way I operate through dating. I’m constantly waiting for someone else to make the first move so I can feel secure, but everyone else may be doing the same thing for all I know.”
What is the core message of the song?
“Just don’t do what I do. Make the first move. This certainly applies to other areas of life too. When you’re waiting for someone else to do it, amazing things pass you by. Don’t be afraid to take a leap of faith on yourself because you deserve it.”
